Reflection: I think this project was a really good challenge for me in that I had to both explain and create problems for "others". I was challenged because I have overall had a fairly difficult time understanding the content of this course in general. I chose the two problems I did because they seemed like a big challenge to me (being that I have a hard time with the content in general) but not so much so that they were impossible. I enjoyed thinking about the problems from the "other end" when I was creating them because that gave me a unique perspective of what the problems really entail. When I created the problems I got to see all that goes into a problem like this and gain a deeper understanding of the content as a whole. I chose to do the first problem about the travel to Vienna via Seattle for two reasons. First because it is a good problem that provides a good example of an application of what we learned in the first "Unit Circle" unit. Secondly I chose this problem because then I would be able to include a "travel theme" to my DEV project. I specifically chose Vienna and Seattle because that is relate-able actually will be flying out of Seattle (where my travel agent actually is) to Vienna for a year. I thought this problem would be especially cool because I could find out how far it actually is to Vienna and apply what I learned in Trig to do it. I chose the Ferris Wheel problem sticking with the "travel theme" and also because I really did struggle with the ferris wheel problem the first time we did one, and thought that some extra practice would be very good. I chose the London Eye because it is one of the most well known Ferris Wheels in the world, and is a place I will travel next year. This problem provided a challenge to me because I had no indication whether or no my work was right, and had to trust all of the knowledge I learned in class. I was particularly challenged by this problem because the outputs changed so much, into number that were so different that the typical 0, pi/2, pi, 3pi/2, 2pi. This challenged me to really work and check my work in more ways than usual. Overall I feel like this project was a great challenge for me and helped me prepare for the exam a lot because I had to include problems that encompassed two units and apply them at a higher level than usual. One thing that helped me with this project was that I did not really understand the content much at one point, so I tried to make my explanations simple so that the reader could understand how to do the problem and as my explanations became more complicated would be able to apply their knowledge to a higher level as well.

Due to the rather difficult time I had during the last unit (for some reason), I had rather low hopes for any new units. However, this identity stuff isn't half bad! In fact, I feel more confident doing the identities than I do coming up with equations for graph. Hopefully it doesn't get super hard and make me regret this blog post.

Well I had a super busy Memorial Day weekend and I'm just getting to this now so I feel horrible about it but I'm keeping my chin up. We have trig identities happening! What's more exciting than that?! And I mean this seriously. Oh man I have to get going on the DEV though. And the end of year madness starts...now. Sigh. It's going to be a long couple of weeks. So much homework, so many open houses, so many tests, so many projects, so little time. But that's okay because positivity and happiness and joy exist in the world and they're not too hard to find in day to day life. Smile. Someone out there loves you and is happy when you're happy. So just be happy about that.

The Last BOB of the school year

Hey everyone else in Pre-Calc Trig. It's the last post of the year! Not saying it was much of a chore to do these but it reminds me that school's almost over. Anyway on Wednesday we took the first part of the test which I was able to finish the next day and still had to take the second part after school. The first went alright and I did not feel like any major errors were made on graphing or no calculator unit circle stuff. However part 2 being only 4 questions long was the most stressful thing I have ever faced in a math class. I have been studying and the questions were a bit confusing and very tricky to get equations out. It was probably a train wreck but nothing extremely bad. These identities are A LOT easier since they are more logical that mathematical. Let's just see how the exam goes.

Hello friends of blogger.com, this is my week reflection, the week went well I finished part one of the test and was not at school Friday so I need to take part 2! I am still kind of confused on graphing tan and cot and seeing how the k values affect those graphs. I am very ill but I will be at school tomorrow hopefully!

Hey gang, it's me again.  Sorry for my lack of "blogging" over the course of this trimester, but you know what they say...sometimes even a wolf has to settle for some berries.  Anyways, on Wednesday this week we took the first part of the test, which seemed to go horrific.  On Thursday, we took the second part of the test, which even though I could tell I was doing better, it was still quite a sticky situation.  I mean literally, my fingers were covered in dried maple syrup from the chocolate chip pancakes I had recently shoved down my hole that morning.  Regardless, normally if I am not doing to well in a class, I can still give myself an "A" for effort, but with this class my effort has been worse than Khloe Kardashian's when trying to put down the cheese puffs.  Dah.

Ahhhh!!!!! This tri has gone by so fast!!! But this has been such a great year... sure it had some downs but overall I'd say this year has been pretty good...

So this new stuff... getting the hang of it,  substitution and algebra. Seeing how all of this connects together is interesting and dare I say mind blowing!!!

term reflection

i didn't do as much as i would have liked to, but i had fun; it's kind of hard not to with Jackson as a teacher. anyway the DEV is coming along well and it seems like the end of another year is upon us again, and so passes another 1% of our lives if we live to 100. i screwed up another term and landed a c if all goes to plan with the exam and DEV. in conclusion, i have to thank you for another class of useful skills, you may never know the impact or extent of your work on those you teach, but your devotion never goes unnoticed. people like you who sacrifice their time and resources to make GOOD education possible generally don't make a lot of money, instead you make something far more valuable. you make a difference. thank you

B.O.B. Week 7

I honestly have no idea what week number it is anymore. Oops. We're just gonna say 7, since I guessed 6 last week. Anyway. Moving on. 

I haven't been at school much. As in I've missed the last three weeks. Which isn't good. At all. I have loads of work to make up, and must do so while learning new material, which is often based on the things I was gone for. Overall, it's not the best situation to be in. I'm completely swamped with work, and am trying to come up with a reasonable plan to get things done. That honestly hasn't been going the greatest. Or at least it has in some areas, and not so much in others. I've been try in to prioritize work so that I can get things done based on what needs to get done quickly- such as my AP exam and my Physics exam. The problem with this is that although I recognize I can't get everything done at once I feel the need to, like I have to get it all done at once so that I can stay caught up and still meet my own expectations for myself. And I need to find a way to fix that. Soon. Hopefully this week will go smoothly and I can get myself caught up as soon as possible.

The most difficult thing for me this week was having to review stuff from the previous units before the test. Most of it was easy to remember, since everything in our graphing unit is adding to the first unit anyway. I had the most trouble writing equations for story problems, but I was able to pick it up pretty quickly.

B.O.B. - Reflection of last week

I had a very great day today, with amazing people and sunshine! But so was all last week:) in the beginning of the week I came in every day before and after school freaking out, about not being ready for the test and then there was also the final exam in physics... But after putting all this work in before and after school and writing 3 summaries, it was worth it, not because I think I did good on the test, but because I think I understand a lot of things better now! but thanks Jackson, this would have never worked without you! Now I'm looking forward to get some sleep before memorial day parade and then for another awesome week:) life is just great! so is math class:)

     I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about this week.
     One struggle for me was keeping up with the homework check. It seemed like it took me five-ever to finish everything and I couldn't bring myself to understand two of the problems until the day before the test when I was there after school.
     I also feel conflicted about our test. I felt okay about it, but I get the sense that I didn't focus enough while I took it and I may have messed a lot of it up. With that said, I have strong reservations about having confidence in it. I just can't wait to get it back so maybe I can do test corrections.
     I think I like what we started after day two of the test. I was having trouble focusing on it at first but I liked it by the end. Unfortunately...I missed Friday for the Cedar Point trip (which was SO fun! *shout out to Derek T and Kristen R #workhardplayhard) and I don't know if I'll be able to easily catch up.

Overall, I think I'm just tired. I don't sleep enough and I can't focus in class which makes me only half understand things and fall behind. I think I'll try harder at that this week.

This trimester has been very interesting and challenging in math. I think though that this unit will probably be the hardest for me. Last unit went well and I feel fairly confident about the test. This unit is a little harder to understand for me. But, I'll work hard to keep up with the unit. Right now though I am focusing on my DEV problems. My goal for this weekend is to get at least one problem done. So I am really hoping for a strong finish to this trimester.

The test this past week was difficult for me because we did the converting degrees to radians, and vise versa, problems so long ago that I forgot how to do them. But with A LOT of studying I figured out the shortcuts using pie and dividing it by 180degrees! I think I did pretty good on the tests.

Identities

This week in trig, after the test, we briefly and vaguely talked about Pythagorean identities. From what we've learned so far, learning the identities of at least these three equations will make our lives so much easier when we move on to calculus. What I understand at this point is that all an identity is, is the different form a certain question takes on. For instance we could have 5 "different" equations but they would all be asking and answering the same exact thing. I'm hoping to learn more and better understand all about identities before taking AP calculus next year.

This week we are learning pythagorean identities and it is kind of confusing. There's just so many different ways to write each individual equation and its hard to understand which one to use. Which quadrant the value is in is sort of confusing too, because there's so many things (tan, cos, sec, csc, etc) that you have to look for. Oh well, i'll keep working at it.

Going into the last test we had, I felt a lot more ready than I had. I felt like i actually understood the material and knew more what was going on. I still have a couple questions left on the second part of it though, and I'll have to stay after to finish those.

A reflection on a particular day.

On Friday,  we started to learn more about the Pythagorean identies involving writing "in terms of" expressions for sin, cos, tangent, secant or cosecant. I am starting to get the hang of it, but some problems are a little tricky because there isnt an equation for some identities!  We also got time to work on our D.E.V project which I really enjoyed because I havent had time to really sit down and work on it. Overall it was a very progressive day. This year has gone by sooo fast!

This week helped me understand graphing more. I liked reviewing the questions in class before the test. I wasn't here Friday so I need to get my absent work, but this week was pretty good with reviewing everything then taking the test

This has been another crazy busy week, but friday while my group was working on the assignment we were talking about our progress on the DEV project. Throughout the majority of this conversation I was questioning how I could go above and beyond on a ferris wheel problem which led me to the question," Is it possible to have a sin or cos graph go on like normal for a period or two then after a certain point shift?' in my mind I could see how the equation would look and I had already figured out how I would word the story problem. I would have it be a terror ride where you get on the ferris wheel and I spins you for a while then all of a sudden drops you... Now my question is, "Is It Possible?"

I've successfully managed to make it to the end of the blog posts! This week managed to give me a good sneak peak into the fun that will soon become a daily occurance next year. The test I took on all of last until left me thinking I at least did alright on it. The new unit hasn't been too bad though since it's mostly just algebra the only issue as that it gets a bit dull after awhile. (Not that most Math end up being too exciting either..) I also finally started working on the D.E.V. project which seems to be going along quite nicely with my computer theme.

My progress in this course has been better. I am not behind in actual class work, but with the dev project. All I have done relating to it is thinking of what problems to do. I really need to start working on it, as the due date is fast approaching.

Creative BOB Tilte

We had a test in math this week.  I feel as though I did quite well on it.  I only really had trouble on the question where it wants you to convert degrees to radians as I never remember how to do that.  I also couldn't figure out how to reduce the extra credit question further, so it's only partially done.  On Friday I left to go on the Cedar Point trip for Physics which was fun and involved math.  I believe that a lot of other people went on the trip with me, so I don't think I missed much on Friday.

I feel pretty good about our test from this week and I feel as though I understand everything a lot better. I came in early a couple of days and that helped a lot for me in terms of understanding the unit. Now that I've realized that coming in actually helps a lot, I think I can do pretty well in this upcoming unit.

This past week has been a little stressful! I was very concerned about preparing for the test as well as making sure I spent some time working on the DEV project. I feel like i understood the test fairly well and was able to answer each question to the best of my ability. I felt like I struggled the most on the word problems so I am a bit nervous about that. Overall, even though the week was stressful, I think I handled it well.

#6. Over the past week in Precalc Trig, we had our big unit 2 test and started on a new unit.  Before the unit test, I studied like crazy doing the entire review and doing all of the homework and things given to us for the unit just so I could be prepared for the Test.  I felt more prepared for this test than I did the last and I felt like I did pretty good on it.  We also started a new unit on these sine,cosine,tangent formula things and were learning how to make the formulas in many different variant possibilities.  Overall my reflection over the week was that it was a good week in Precalc Trig, feeling good about the test we took, and learning something new.

How I feel about this class so far. This class has brought moments of clarity and of hardship but isn't that what we are suppose to feel in life it's not suppose to be easy. If it was then there would not be depression or hate in this world because everyone would be happy about their out comes, and they would not want to bring a negative into it. Since a perfect world is not what we are made for we must all try our hardest to do the best that we can because, we all have the ability we just don't all have the preserverence to with stand the obstacles that may block our paths.That's why I don't like when people don't do their work and are failing a class and all they do is complain that it is to hard. Let's see how much effort you put into it 0 and you expect a grade to be handed to you. There are people out there how would kill for the kind of education that we are offered and yet we take advantage of what we have. I see so many people in this class who try their hardess to understand every concept and they come in to Jackson's classroom at every available time they have and just go over problems countless times until they fully understand and to me those people are and inspiration and the rest of us need to take a lesson from them and not Mr.Jackson for just one day.

So this week has been okay overall. I had some trouble getting ready for the math test we had, but I do not feel that I did horribly. I may have to do some test corrections, but I can live with that. The new unit we pretty much started on Friday has me totally confused. I understand the concept of what we are doing, but otherwise it is completely lost on me. However, I am confident that Monday I will be able to wrap my head around it better when we go over it again. And as far as my D.E.V project I feel like I am behind. I have the ideas for my problems all ready, now I just need to do them.

The process for finding identities seems to be pretty simple, I just have to get used to organizing the equations.  It reminds me of precalc functions where we would find the optimum area of a rectangle fence on a river just in terms of x.  I am still a little bothered by secant and cosecant, but I will get used to it.  I am going to start my dev project soon too.

My muddiest point this week was with problem number 9 on that sheet Mr. Jackson gave us for the Pythagorean Theory thing.  How do you so the equations with three different in terms of things?  I am still unsure on how to do that, but I have come to terms with my imminent struggle.

Lately I have been finding that when the material is first taught, I completely understand it. Then, we come to the test and I forget it all. I think we should constantly work with material as well as learn new material.

This week has been a bit difficult on me. I was stressing out through a large part of the weekend, because I thought our test was still on Tuesday and then when it got moved to Wednesday I was missing. That being said coming into class today and having to do the calculator portion of the test was somewhat stressful and I have a bad feeling about it. The questions are just very hard, with so many different pieces so that if you mess one up the whole system comes down, like building a computer or something along those lines. Thankfully, I finally have mastered the whole graphing process, excluding cotangents which I am still somewhat rusty on. Hopefully if I can ace that part I'll manage to not totally bomb this test like I did the previous one.

Test day

So we are taking out test right? Well for the first time, I actually feel like I know what I am doing. Usually I just sit there extremely confused and overwhelmed, but I have prepared myself. I had a good breakfast, got a lot of sleep, and was confident. the minute I saw the test, I already felt like I had aced it. I am a little nervous about the next part, but I believe I can do it. I can't believe this year is almost to an end. Hopefully I can keep this up so I can succeed on the exam.

BOB-late from last week

Have you ever felt like you know something until it's time for it to count? That's pretty much me in this unit. On one hand, I feel comfortable with graphing and writing equations for every type we work with. But I still dread the test. I like the work we are doing, and I understand; my favorite thing about school is learning to understand something new. Even so, I don't pay close enough attention to my work so I make too many small mistakes that I have to go back and fix. Just another normal week fore in trig, I guess. I want to get it down when the test comes, and I might be able to do it. Off to tackle more math homework :P

Tangent and cotangent waves were really easy. The shifts were confusing at first but they make sense based on the asymptotes. I feel ready for the test this week!

Pretty solid week. Got some help on Thursday. That was good. Feeling pretty confident about the test.

I am having trouble graphing the cotangent and tangent functions.  I will just need to practice on that.  The fact that it's cycle is pi instead of 2pi messes me up a little.

This past week, I was able to get a better understanding of what we are learning. I spent more time working on the homework and I was able to focus a lot better. I feel as though I am pretty prepared for the test on Tuesday. I also found that getting extra practice helped a lot too. I feel more confident now than I did earlier in the unit and that's such a great feeling.

Tangent and cotangent aren't as difficult as I expected them to be. They make sense and are logical. I have a decent amount of homework to finish before the test, but it shouldn't be too difficult. So far, this class has made sense to me and that's pretty impressive.

My muddiest point this week was adding the graphing of secant, cosecant, tangent, and cotangent. The concept is not difficult, but graphing the equation can become quite difficult when there are so many shifts and transformations to remember.

Well, good news. Things finally clicked for this unit and ive never been so relieved. Understanding how to properly shift the graphs and making new scales confused me but do not anymore. Now i need to finish up all of the homework, get ready for the test, then begin the DEV project before it's too late.

This past week for me has been a little more clarifying for me than the past few weeks. I've been waking up earlier and eating breakfast, which has helped me stay awake in class, which is hard for me to do in first hour because it is so early. This unit is easier howver because we touched based on this in my old school. I have not had a chance to study too much yet due to two papers being due in my other classes and prom, but hopefully I will be ok.

I was glad that the test was pushed to Wednesday, because it gives me a little more time I need to get cosecant and secant, and also tangent and cotangent drilled into my head. I'll probably do the DEV project by myself, and I'm excited for the creative challenge of making my own problems.

This past week has been INSANE!!!!!  By now you should have guessed that this is a reflection of my past week as seen through my eyes.  First we had the ferris wheel project that caused my head to burst into a fire ball.  I was missing the shift and I was so close it could that bit me and killed me.  Secondly I feel like I'm a counselor.  I have been talking to people about their life and making it easier on them and giving them a confidence boost.  Lastly today we had a concert.  I got a photo of our band teacher in the show case which I will most likely show around the class.  I also had a solo of Jazz Band.  Also if you have nothing better to do come see the Jazz I & II at the court house square on Thursday where we will start off the music on the courthouse square that is every other week and then the marching band will finish it off in the fall.  We have another concert this wednesday at Steel to show kids about music and band.  Right now I'm going a bit crazy because I'm tired and I'm having a bad migraine which I'm sensitive to light at that point so yah.  So that wraps up every thing I have to say.  Hasta luego!!

thinking about my day

Well, Friday was an average day in class.  I learned a little bit of new information and received a lot of homework.  I had a hard time concentrating like normal, probably because the last track meet of my high school career on my home track was tonight.  If I remember correctly, I was pretty hungry and was looking forward to Godzilla later that night.

This past week I have, once again, not really done much. I was still gone because of my back, and while I was in contact with Jackson about worksheets I was missing I honestly didn't do much. I was focused on studying and practicing for my AP test last Thursday, which of course made my back worse so I'll be back at school later than I was hoping (thanks, three hours of sitting and testing). Now that the AP exam is over I'm going to work on all the homework I have to get caught up on, although physics is probably going to be my priority at this point, considering that we're going to cedar point for the exam this Friday. Now let's see how quickly I can get caught up on everything.

This week has kept me more optimistic about the class. I feel that I am beginning to really understand the material and I am getting more confident in my abilities. I feel very confident about the test on Wednesday and I really hope that my grade will reflect that. The graphing and transformations of the secant, cosecant and cotangent graphs started out a little challenging but with more and more practice I am starting to understand it a lot more. I really enjoy this unit!

The past week has been a long one but the things we have been learning has really been helpful! This week was spent worrying about my AP test and the things that are going to follow as the year goes on, but for the first time ever I wasn't worried about going to Mr. Jackson's class. This past week Mr. Jackson's has been my spot of relaxation a break from the stress and the problems and I hope this continues for the rest of the year.

This unit with the graphing I originally thought was going to be a pain in the neck. This unit is possibly the easiest unit I have done in math in high school. The scs and sec are the easier of the three to remember because cot and tan are both filled with holes in the graph.

B.O.B- Muddy Point

So Friday night I started all of our packets and worksheets that we had to do. I was a little behind because I missed Thursday's class. But despite that I was able to work through most of the worksheets. However, when I got to the writing formulas I was not able to work through the tangent and cotangent graphs. I could not, and still can't,  figure out how the amplitude affects the graph. I looked online, but I am still a little confused. Other than that though, I feel pretty prepared for the test on Tuesday.

So this past week hasn't been too bad. I had a lot of stress cause of the AP world exam and, was distracted from any other subject. I'm a bit shaky on graphing tangent waves, they have lots of different rules and cotangent is confusing as well. I'll figure it out by Wednesday because writing equations for them is making more sense rather than graphing them alone.

Ready or nah?

So this unit has felt like it has released some of my strengths and a little less of my weaknesses. On my last quiz I did pretty well. One thing that threw me off was finding the shifts on a graph. I did not understand it at all. But after discussing it with my table, they helped me realize what to do when it comes to those. So I understand them now. The secant, and cosecant graphs are pretty simple too. As long as I do my steps correctly. Same with the tangent and cotangent graphs. But over all I think I am progressing well when it comes to these graphs. With a little more practice these next couple days, I will hopefully be ready and confident to take this test.

I like this unit. It's one of the easier ones we have had so far. I think it's easy because I already know how to graph the sine and cosine waves, and graphing the secant and cosecant waves is simple once you have those graphed. Also graphing the tangent and cotangent waves are pretty simple too!

I understand the tangent graphs  and how to do them it's just hard to remember what way they go. I also understand how to do both the cosecant and secant graphs as well. Overall I think I am understanding how to do most of it

Well this week went fairly well without really any issues. Going over the graphing is fairly simply even the jacked up csc and sec functions (Tan is fairly normal really). Finding out about the D.E.V. project though seems like I'll have a little bit of pain, but it shouldn't be too bad at least.. (or so I say as I have yet to make up any problems at this point...)

B.O.B. Reflection of last week

Last week i was very busy, so i just tried my best getting all the work done, but i feel a lot better about last week, than about the week before. I'm very excited for the DEV project, to work with my great partner and just figuring out problems for math and challenging myself in a different way, with creating problems myself, I really enjoy doing stuff like that. I just wish I had more time, to really invest more time in everything, so I just wish there would be an eight day week! I just hope I find some time, do review myself and do the review and the very good worksheets you give us:)

B.O.B Number Something

     Good morning everyone!!! Jackson just texted us all that the test is being pushed back to Wednesday and that works out really nicely for me because I'll be in Canada on Tuesday on a trip to Stratford. I think it's highly unlikely that I'll ever get a perfect attendance award. 

     I don't think I'll have too much trouble with the test, I just need a little more practice with writing an equation for a given secant, cosecant, tangent, or cotangent graph. And that's because that is the newest stuff we've learned, so I just haven't had a lot of experience with it. 

     I've decided to do the DEV project alone this time, simply because I have a really full schedule almost always, and it's always really hard for me to coordinate times to sit down with other people and work on stuff. So although being alone takes that bit of stress off my plate, the idea of thinking this whole project up and executing it all on my own is really quite daunting. But that's okay. I'm almost always up for a challenge. 

     On a totally unrelated note, prom was awesome and I had a great time and I'm heading off to see Chris and Annika at the Ovation awards in a couple of hours. I'm so excited for both of them!!!!

A reflection on my progress.

This unit on graphing and writing eqauations for sin, cos has been pretty easy to me. I like it alot and it seems im always done with whatever packet we are assigned early! Also, for just learning how to graph the secant, cosecant and tangent I think I am doing preettty well.  I really enjoy this unit alot and its nice to understand something completely in Precalc Trig! So, overall I believe my progress is making a steady incline from not so good to good!.

Progress so far

This class overall has been very difficult for me. This year although the work has been hard; I feel like I am making lots of progress. I now can understand lots more of our daily work in class and feel confident that I understand at least 3/4 of what we are doing. Although this seems like not too much, it is much better than what I have been doing. I think if I continue to progress like this I can be a confident percalc student by the end of the tri. 

Week reflection bob 6?

This week has been very stressful but also fun. I came in early almost every day to work on math. I was very behind in a lot of my classes but now I am caught up and I brought all of my grades up! I am very proud of myself! Also prom was so much fun!

Creative BOB Title

We have a test next week about graphing and whatnot.  I actually feel relatively confident.  Any mistakes I make tend to only be about tiny things and they also tend to be minimal.  The review though looks like it might be quite a bit of work however.  I'll probably end up getting a large chunk of it done in class though.  On the topic of the DEV project, I have already found my group and wrote a problem.  I wrote it based off of one of the extra credit problems on our last test.  It just ended up being a lot harder than the one on the test because the answers aren't the nice, even angle measures that everyone had to memorize on the unit circle.  I even found an alternate way to do it that ended taking much more time than the original method.  And that concludes this week's blog post!

So this week I am feeling a little uneasy about things. I am still having some trouble with the tangent and cotangent graphing. I always mix up how they curve. Also, I have started my D.E.V project and I have some ideas that I am tossing around. However, I am not entirely sure what I am doing, but I think I can make it work. Overall I just need to get my head in the game and buckle down.

I think for this blog post I'm going to write about the hard times that I'm having. I feel like I understand everything that is going on I think the problem that I am having is that I am second guessing myself. When I am graphing the waves I really second guess myself when finding the x-axis scale because I don't think I fully understand how to do it because I thin that I am just not sure on how it happens. I know how to fill out all the other boxes in the information but when it comes to that x-axis scale I am always so worried that I won't get it right. I'm trying to work on it, hopefully this week end I can get the hang of it down.

This week included a lot more graphing than last week. I think I am getting the hang of graphing most of the functions, but I will find out for sure Tuesday.

5. My reflection over the past week was interesting.  In class, we learned how to graph for Sec and Csc on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Then on Thursday we learned how to graph Cot and Tan graphs.  When we learned these at first it seemed kinda complicated to me but after practicing a few problems I feel like I am starting to get the whole graphing thing in general.  We just got our review Friday so I will be practicing my graphs and hope to do good on the test Tuesday.

Want to know something weird? Despite struggling to master sine and cosine waves for at least a full week, I got to class today and immediately understood how secant, cosecant, tangent, and cotangent operate and why they do the things they do. It's like that one theory that says as we advance technologically, new technologies will develop quicker and quicker, only instead of new technologies its trigonometry. It's pretty cool I guess. Being able to do something quickly and painlessly beats out struggling for days on end to comprehend what many people understand in an hour or two. And who knows! If that theory mentioned earlier rings true by next Wednesday I'll know the basic plan for a rocket ship.

B.O.B. How I Feel About This Class

At first, I was intimidated by this class and everything we were learning. But now that we've been doing graphs I've visually seen everything and I understand 100% everything, I'm a visual learner so that's why. Today Mr.Jackson taught us how to graph Tan and Cot equations and I got it right away. This week we've been learning how to graph Sin, Cos, Csc, Sec, Tan, and Cot equations, and I haven't had any trouble at all so far. I'm planning on doing one of these graphs for my D.E.V. project, if Mr.Jackson allows me to, because this unit is has been the easiest for me to understand so far. I'm digging this class so far, so thank you Mr.Jackson, can't wait for Pre-Calculus Functions first tri next year with you.

So Friday in Mr. Jackson's class.  Asa, Jack, Fernando, and I were working on the Ferris Wheel problem.  Now by now it seems way to easy but, on the first day it seemed gormless.  Hoping that we can figure it out before the due date.

The "muddiest point" for me this past week was the story problems that went along with sine and cosine. The weight problems and the Ferris wheel problems are a little confusing to me. Also the thing where you have to factor out the b value and multiply theta by the reciprocal. I can never remember that either.

Right now, I feel as if I understand most of what we are doing in the graphing unit. I am still having a bit of trouble with the real world applications though, such as the ferris wheel project. I am sure I can figure it out once I spend some time on it and talk it through with a partner, although it will take a bit of thinking it through to get it right.

This ferris wheel project is a challenge. There's a lot of work to be put into it but I'm sure my group and I will get it. I feel like once we start on one part of the project then the other steps will show up and we'll be able to solve them, kind of like dominoes

This Ferris wheel project is for sure going to be a tough one. Our group worked through the hour to find the majority of the information for an equation, but are still missing some parts. Were also missing the ramp height and where to plot that on our graph. Im currently sick and hope i feel better tomorrow because I dont want to miss any information on this part.

A Specific Day in Class

There was a day in class that just really helped me a lot. we went over everything thoroughly and it literally helped me so much. we should do that more often because when something new is described and taught a couple times, it seems to help at least me a lot. I don't remember what day it was though..

Muddiest Point

My muddiest point this entire year hasn't had anything to do with math, this year my attendance has caused me to show a part of myself in which I hate. The absences this year have caused me to be depressed and so stressed to the point where I break down if I tried to do everything I used to be able to do. I have become so stressed that I have just turned down the whole idea of homework because it causes me to have a stress caused mental break down. I just hope there is enough time for me to fix my wrongs and turn this trimester around so I won't have to pay for my aditude this year in the future.

Math is cool. The class is nice. Had a huge brain fart on the quiz. Oh well, as long as I learn something. Everything will be ok. No muddy points besides that. The Ferris wheel equation writing was cool. Being able to visualize math using real life situations helps a lot. And even when I can visualize real life situations in math. Knowledge is power.

Something I've been pretty good as is following directions. If you tell me exactly how to do something, I can usually do it with minimal questions. But when I'm given something math-related and told to figure it out, I really struggle with that. So I'm not really sure what to do with the Ferris Wheel problem we got. I know bits and pieces, but I'm not quite sure how to connect them.

So over all this week I feel pretty good about what we are learning. I have caught up almost completely with the stuff I missed and I am feeling pretty confident. I am still kind of confused about the Ferris wheel model we were given. I am not entirely sure what I am doing, but I hopefully I can get it all figured out tomorrow. If not I will just have to go in early on Tuesday and hopefully get it all straightened out.

This past week I haven't really done much, obviously, seeing as I've been gone for all of it. I've been emailing Jackson to ask for notes and such that I've missed. Honestly, I think it's going to take more time than I would like to make it all up, because I have so much that I have missed. Also, because I have my AP test this coming week, I'm going to be studying for that a lot, and thus have less time to work on some of my other subjects. I'm going to have to really work on catching myself up, and hopefully will be able to do so without getting myself too far behind.

I think that the muddiest point this far has been the first test. I don't know why I struggle with taking tests. I think it is just the fact that tests are 70 percent of our grade and it stresses me out! But you just have to remember to get a good nights sleep the night before, and to eat a good breakfast and have a positive state of mind about the test!

This week went really well even after being gone for quite a long time. I was gone at the BPA NLC competition for Software Engineering (Managed to take 7th). Graphing the two basic functions is obviously simple enough and I feel pretty confident I did well on the test too, but I better not get too confident since the next 4 have yet to come... Overall it's went pretty well!

So far I feel okay with my work this unit. The quiz went well, I guess had a couple of stupid mistakes that I recognized right away. But our homework for Monday is going right over my head. I try and think of a way to solve it, but I get stuck. So as of right now, I have gotten almost nowhere. I can get the formula from the graphs and vice versa, but applying them to problems is a struggle. Which is really frustrating to me.

I really like the unit we have been working on this past week. The Ferris wheel project is a challenge for me, but I think I have it to a good start so far. I made an equation for if the ride started at the bottom, but now I have to figure out how to change it to if the ride started at a different point. Monday is going to be a challenge but I'm ready!

My progress this week

So we recently just took our sine and cosine graphing quiz, and i can honestly say i think i did alot better with this quiz and felt a lot more confident with it than i did with the previous quiz we took last unit. I really do understand the graphing to a certain extent. What i dont understand is how i find the shifts of a graph and how i know if its a reflection or not. That is just one of the things i am going to have to figure out by myself or come in and get some help with it on how to identify those types of transformations. But over all, I really like this unit and I think my group might have understood the ferris wheel mini project too. i don't know yet, but we will see.

This week we moved to figuring out everything about a Ferris wheel with a very limited amount of knowledge. It was pretty hard to find some of the stuff from scratch, like figuring out the period, but some of it isn't too bad, like figuring out the Circumference, and of course the amplitude. I'm very nervous about the DEV project coming up also, because it's a big chunk of our grade.

I have been thinking that this unit has been the best so far. I understand the graphing... But really only when I have my notes out. Without my notes I have trouble finding the "B"value. I am working on this and hope to really have a good understanding by the time of our test. 

BOB A Real Life Example

So on Friday when we were assigned the Ferris wheel project we had to determine how fast the wheel was exactly turning and how long it would take to complete 1 rotation. This reminded of unit conversions from chemistry. We had to manipulate the distance formula (d=rt) to our benefit and it was a nice flashback to another of my favorite subjects. They both hand in hand sorta. I just really like math and science :)

This past week in class has been very positive for me. I feel that I am really beginning to understand the material and I believe my quiz grade will reflect that. The Ferris Wheel project has taken me some time to really understand but the more I work at it with my group members, the better I feel about this unit and the class. I really like to graph and make equations from the graphs. That is probably my favorite part about this class so far.

I have found this week very insightful to the uses of graphing the circle's sine and cosine values.  It takes me some time to actually solve the problem but it all makes sense so far.  I am finding the Ferris Wheel Problem entertaining, challenging, and not too frustrating so far.

B.O.B. - Relate math to real life

I really like in this unit, that we do a lot of problems in which we actually get real world numbers and solve problems related to the real world. This encourages me to really want to understand the unit and the things we are doing, because I know it will help me in life and I can use it later. I decided to not write about the muddiest point, because I wanna be positive, but I still really don't understand the unit and am struggling greatly. So but since I see with the relation to the real world, that it's really helpful to know things like the sine and cosine functions, I want to learn it. It might help me, when I'm at an amusement park and I wanna find out if I have time to go one time around the ferris wheel or not. So then I would find the period:)

Every week I write on of these and I have decided to make my own guideline a because it want to touch on this topic. My topic is about once I learn something being able to reteach it to someone in my own way. When we learned how to make equations for graphs and finding all the thing that go along with it, I have learned different ways of finding these things. Someone asked me how to do it because they have been gone and I have taught them with they way we learned in class. But I also showed them in the way that I have of fining and they understood the concert still and it helped them full understand. I like messing around with lessons and attempting to look at them differently.

4. Reflecting over the past week, I feel like it was a good week overall with it being pretty busy.  We got a lot of new homework sheets and some new things to learn for the current unit we are in.  We also had a open note quiz that we took Thursday.  I felt like I did good on it not necessarily because it was open note, but because I had study for it in advanced.  There were some things that were kinda confusing to me still, but I felt good about the quiz overall.  We also got a class project on Friday that due Tuesday so I hope to get a good grade on that!

BOB for the week that it is currently

I think I'm doing well on the whole graphing sine and cosine thing.  I got 100% on the quiz, which I'm proud of.  We got the Ferris wheel project today.  I don't enjoy this as much as normal problems because I prefer my work to be more quick and simple with little stress.   That being said, I have already put in a fair amount of work on it as I have figured out the circumference, speed in feet per second, and the overall time it takes to get around (a little under a minute).  As such, it shouldn't be too difficult.    

It does not seem like much was done this week in this class. All that was introduced was the applying of the functions in real life situations. The most difficult part relating to the application of functions is figuring out whether the graph starts up or down. One just has to read the problem carefully.

My muddiest point this week has been with calculating the b-value.  I understand the concept, and I know the formula, but I usually get a different answer than what I ought to be getting.   Generally, I just count out the number of completed cycles in 2 pi, and get the right answer.  I also have struggled with spacing my points on the graph according to the period.  All in all, I really do understand this stuff.  I just get the answers in a  less mathematical way.

Today we were assigned this project in class, which is very challenging to me personally. We have to make a scale of a ferris wheel with a graph and all of that stuff. We have to figure out all of the variables all by ourself and use plenty of previous math knowledge to figure it out. Half of the information on mine is already done, but of the stuff that's NOT done yet, I have absolutely no idea where to even begin to do it. This has been a somewhat challenging class, which I enjoy, as long as I end up understanding everything in the end. So thank you Mr.Jackson for assigning this project..... challenge accepted.

I have learned a lot this week and most of the things we are learning are starting to make sense. I understand how to make a graph given the equation. I still struggle a little bit with being givin a graph and having to make an equation. The hardest part for me is figuring out the period.

This week went really well for me :) I got to miss some school Wednesday to get an award, and I really like the graphing. I understand it really well and even though I was gone when we learned about the application, I think I understand it. And I'm proud of how I did on yesterday's quiz, so this was a really good week for me in trig.

We had a quiz this week, and despite the fact that we could use our notes on it, I somehow still ended up doing terrible. Well, not terrible terrible but not as good as I could have done. I'm really good at coming up with equations and making graphs, but for the life of me I cannot remember all the variables that go into making it into an equation and writing it down. Which is weird because all the variables are in the equations we read for graphs. Oh well. Thankfully it's the weekend so I can try to memorize all the different variations and FINALLY MASTER HOW TO FIND THAT STINKING B-VALUE. Hard work pays off I suppose. The problem, along with the b-value, is that I keep messing up which is which in terms of what reflects over the x-axis and what flips over the y-axis. Regardless, as long as one tries their best everything works out alright.

On one of my earlier blog posts i have done a reflection of the week instead of one particular day. So that is what i am going to post about again.
This week, through Monday, Tuesday,And Wednesday, we have been working on graphing and writing equations for cosine and sin functions. I find this to be pretty easy and my most favorite unit so far. Out of graphing and writing cosine and sin equations, i would say i like graphing the most. When  graphing a sin or cosine function, i like to solve for the horizontal and vertical shift. I like a challenge, and graphing and figuring out where the shifts happen is really fun in an odd way. Futhermore,on Thursday(today) we went over applications for sin and cosine. We also took a 4 question quiz and got to use our notes! This week has been a good week!

So far my muddiest point is the measurement unit. I am doing good so fat on the graphing unit but I'm afraid I might start to lose it when we get back to the measurement portion. I guess I just may have to stay after at some point when we reach that part of the graphing unit

My biggest challenge this week was being away at the BPA NLC competition for 3 days of class. I don't really think any of the content really gave me any trouble, but instead just that I had to force myself to actually do the work outside whilst constantly busy. In the end though I feel like I came out on top and managed to figure it out.

So we got our first tests back this week. I didn't necesarily rock the crap out of it, but I did well. I made a large number of small mistakes because I'm honestly the queen of making small mistakes, but I didake up for it by earning some extra credit. I think I can improve future scores by spending a little more time studying. And good news! Now that the musical is over, I'll actually have enough time to study for tests. Now all I have to so is get past All-State Honors Choir this weekend.

My muddiest point in the graphing unit so far is using the horizontal shift to change the values. Finding the new values takes the most time for me and finding the right scale to use on the graph also takes a considerable amount of time.

This unit so far has consisted of graphing the sine and cosine functions.  At first it started off pretty simple and I understood it well, but then a few more factors came into place that made it a little harder to understand.  Things like shifting in the graph. So we're starting to graph sine and cosine functions and honestly I have to say this is easier than the last unit. This past week has been ok for me. Understanding the inputs and outputs for normal cos and sin graphs has been ok for me. Changing the amplitude has also been ok, and even changing the period has been ok to some extent, although it's still harder and I don't understand how to space it out to fill the entire space given. Instead I just make the x-axis scale that value have a very small graph. What I'm worried about (in addition to graphing the period change) is the phase shift and vertical shift, particularly the phase shift. And I hope that missing a day and a half isn't going to affect my understanding of these too much. Let's pretend not, at least.

I've never considered myself very good at math, it's actually one of the subject I struggle with most. Going into this class, I expected to not understand very much and have to ask lots of questions. However, so far it hasn't been too hard and any questions I've had were answered by my table mates. The hardest thing for me is just making sure to stay on task and focused, but I haven't been having as much trouble with that as normal, so that's good too.

So, missing a 3 days of school made me really worried about being behind and not being able to understand the conent. This week we did sine and cosine graphing, and when I came back it all made sense almost instantly, so it was cool that I didn't have to work any harder to figure out what we learnred. My laziness level wasn't tested outside of its limits.

My muddiest point this week is one part of graphing.  The part I have a problem with is when the B value is with the feta and there is a phase change.  I know how to do it and every thing but I just dislike it.  Having to make up a brand new scale that works really irritates me.  Other wise I feel very confident.

So this week was pretty easy. Had a couple brain farts during the test. However, I learned a lot in the first unit so I'm not too disappointed. Nothing is ever lost when knowledge is gained.

So far in the course, i think i am doing good and more not so good. First of all, every time we learn a new unit , it always takes me a few days to understand it. Its weird because when Mr. Jackson does problems and examples with the class, i understand it completely and can even skip ahead and start working on other problems. But when i go to take a test or a quiz, my mind goes blank; or the problems that i think im doing right I'm actually not! It seriously drives me crazy because i feel like I am not smart enough. Our test we recently took, I failed. I knew how to do the problems on the review and even studied! Its hard for me to study for math because taking a test or quiz is the same problems, and maybe a little bit harder, that we have been working on for weeks! I don't get it, and maybe I never will. But one thing I know forsure is that i wont give up...

This week the graphing has seemed pretty easy. With making sure the shifts and period changes are made note of the graphing is Farley simple. The graphing has been the easiest part of the week.

I was pretty disappointed with my grade when my test was returned on Friday. I am feeling a little lost in this class and this is a new feeling for me. I need to stay focused and work harder if I am going to earn the grade I would like. I really hope that this next unit will make more sense to me and I will do better on the quiz/test.

B.O.B- Muddiest Point

So far this unit has been going okay for me. At first, it took me a while to get the concept of how to do the graphs, nut after doing the packet it made more sense. So that boosted my confidence a little bit. However, doing the worksheet where some graphs were reflected was a little more challenging. I was able to do the reflections, but the other two graphs were pretty hard for me. I was able to do one of them, but I could not graph the other one. It completely baffled me and I have no idea what to do. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to get my "muddy point" cleared up.

This week pretty much covered graphing of cosine and sine functions. It was difficult to understand at first, but then I figured out which types of transformations affected the input or output values. It just took me a day or two to take in.

The new unit - could be my strong point

This new unit of Trig with graphing has really brought out my strengths. I understand the graphing quite well. Working with the basic formula, with the sine and cosine equations. I found it very easy to work with, and i am just breezing through that wave packet. This really is my favorite unit. The last unit, I struggled greatly and it showed on my last test. So I am really trying to work even more hard on this unit than I did last unit. I'm hoping this will show on the quiz that we take for this unit. But other than that, I am pretty confident in this unit and the future units that we have.

OHHHHH BOOOOY. Graphing is my favorite part about any math course whether it be geometry or algebra its fun. Its kind of like a map that tells you where to go and you just have to re write that map out on a graph. Being there only 2 functions (so far) that we graph it is quite easy to do and doesn't really take too long to get the hang of. I'm a bit scared about tangent, secant, and all that jazz coming up this week though... Oh well it'll be alright.

Thank God for Graphing

This past week was wonderful! Not only because it was the week of musical but I finally found something I think is easy in Mr. Jackson's class! This "easy part of the unit" sure did surprise me, this is because I tend to hate graphing by hand, I felt like it was a waste of time because a calculator could do it so much faster and without error. But this easy subject came in the form of a graph that would be very difficult to show on a calculator, so we were forced to do it by hand, after a few times of trying it myself I found that it was super easy and the answers I was getting actually made sense. I couldn't believe it I ACTUALLY UNDERSTOOD SOMETHING IN MR.JACKSON'S CLASS!

Hello world! I just want to write about my weekend on this post. It was very fun and eventful! We had the musical, Taco Bell, later tag (in which I got last out of 43 people hahah), and the cast party! It was all super fun and I am now looking forward to the mini relay, prom, and then summer!

So this week actually went pretty well for me, and I really like the graphing. It didn't make very much sense to me at first, but now I think it's kind of fun. My only thing is that I need to keep looking at the notes to see which variables do what to the graph. But I haven't needed to look at it as much in the end of the week, so I think I'm improving. AND I actually did what Jackson said and didn't use my calculator :). I hope we didn't learn anything on Friday, though o.O because missing something (again) could easily become a muddiest point for me next week.

B.O.B. Reflection 3#

3# My reflection over the past week included learning stuff about a new unit, senior work day, and getting the unit 1 test back.  For the new unit we've been doing, we have learned how to graph sine and cosine graphs as well as how to find the phase shift and amplitude of the graphs.  Wednesday was senior work day the seniors were out the entire day and it was really fun to do something different.  Then on Friday we got are unit test back and was doing test corrections on those.  We have a quiz tomorrow which i hope to do good on!

B.O.B. Week 4

So I didn't think I'd be able to understand graphing very easily, and I didn't understand it at first, considering there are a lot of steps you need to go through and conversions and common denominators and blah blah. But actually, I understand it pretty well now. Walkthroughs of problems in class helps make things easier to understand.

So this week I was gone a lot because of the musical and the AP biology field trip. I tried to get some papers before hand so I wouldn't be to far behind, but I feel like I have done a good job of catching up. I kind of understand most of what we are doing, although some of the graphing still confuses me. However, I am confident I will catch up and sort of the kinks.

B.O.B. - Muddiest point

Last week I missed a lot of school, because of Washington, the Senior workday, French presentations and so on. So I'm having trouble understanding this new unit and that I'm sick doesn't help in a positive way. I did understand the first worksheet and the graphing of that one, but I'm not able to connect the normal graphing function with the special sin and cosine function, to then graph it! I'm not able to really understand what the terms like amplitude and period mean, even though the explanations Jackson gave us really helped. I'm trying to catch up on work that I missed and the muddiest point of this week was just a lot of stress and not really understanding, what we were doing in class. I hope with more practice I will understand it better and have the clarity some of you talked about in their posts:)

I ended up missing a lot of class lately due to the DC trip and the musical.  Interestingly though, I've actually caught up without any outside work.  I even understand the graphing as I remember doing something very similar in algebra II.  So, everything is going smoothly and it's great.

A thing that I found clarity in is learning the cordinates on the unit circle. Before I would just guess where the points are and which ones go where an now I have discovered a a pattern that occurs so now I don't have to guess. And to branch off of that I have also found clarity in mowing what sin and cos and tan and Csc an sec and cot stand for. Taking the first unit test really made me realize how important know know what all these mean. The moment for clarity really allowed me the opportunity understand and now I really know what they are.

So right now in class we are doing graphs in class, and at first they were very difficult for me to understand. I would get it, but then something else was added to the equation and my mind would go blank on what to do and how to plot it. But then today something just clicked and I have no idea what happened, but I know exactly what's going on now. I like how Mr.Jackson will go over problems and show the class exactly how it works, because for visual learners (such as myself) it makes class about 1,849,292,902x easier. I was worried before but now I know exactly what to do and how to plot everything, it's all good in the hood.

Actually understanding!!!

This past week I was worried about not being able to catch up after all the school I have missed. I am excited about graphing, and glad that I am finally understanding something in trig!!! The only slightly confusing thing in this unit is the more complicated questions, but with practice even these are doable. 

Geez graphing is great!! It's really fun! One of my favorite things to do is graph, and this stuff is pretty interesting because we haven't really done graphs of this sort before. The hardest part is all of the different transformations that alter the graph simply because its hat to remember which one goes where. It sure is shaping up to be an interesting unit!
