Reflection: I think this project was a really good challenge for me in that I had to both explain and create problems for "others". I was challenged because I have overall had a fairly difficult time understanding the content of this course in general. I chose the two problems I did because they seemed like a big challenge to me (being that I have a hard time with the content in general) but not so much so that they were impossible. I enjoyed thinking about the problems from the "other end" when I was creating them because that gave me a unique perspective of what the problems really entail. When I created the problems I got to see all that goes into a problem like this and gain a deeper understanding of the content as a whole. I chose to do the first problem about the travel to Vienna via Seattle for two reasons. First because it is a good problem that provides a good example of an application of what we learned in the first "Unit Circle" unit. Secondly I chose this problem because then I would be able to include a "travel theme" to my DEV project. I specifically chose Vienna and Seattle because that is relate-able actually will be flying out of Seattle (where my travel agent actually is) to Vienna for a year. I thought this problem would be especially cool because I could find out how far it actually is to Vienna and apply what I learned in Trig to do it. I chose the Ferris Wheel problem sticking with the "travel theme" and also because I really did struggle with the ferris wheel problem the first time we did one, and thought that some extra practice would be very good. I chose the London Eye because it is one of the most well known Ferris Wheels in the world, and is a place I will travel next year. This problem provided a challenge to me because I had no indication whether or no my work was right, and had to trust all of the knowledge I learned in class. I was particularly challenged by this problem because the outputs changed so much, into number that were so different that the typical 0, pi/2, pi, 3pi/2, 2pi. This challenged me to really work and check my work in more ways than usual. Overall I feel like this project was a great challenge for me and helped me prepare for the exam a lot because I had to include problems that encompassed two units and apply them at a higher level than usual. One thing that helped me with this project was that I did not really understand the content much at one point, so I tried to make my explanations simple so that the reader could understand how to do the problem and as my explanations became more complicated would be able to apply their knowledge to a higher level as well.

Due to the rather difficult time I had during the last unit (for some reason), I had rather low hopes for any new units. However, this identity stuff isn't half bad! In fact, I feel more confident doing the identities than I do coming up with equations for graph. Hopefully it doesn't get super hard and make me regret this blog post.

Yeah last B.O.B.

Well I had a super busy Memorial Day weekend and I'm just getting to this now so I feel horrible about it but I'm keeping my chin up. We have trig identities happening! What's more exciting than that?! And I mean this seriously. Oh man I have to get going on the DEV though. And the end of year madness starts...now. Sigh. It's going to be a long couple of weeks. So much homework, so many open houses, so many tests, so many projects, so little time. But that's okay because positivity and happiness and joy exist in the world and they're not too hard to find in day to day life. Smile. Someone out there loves you and is happy when you're happy. So just be happy about that.

I'm still having issues understanding everything but I have some friends who are took this class and understand it that are going to help me so hopefully by the end of the year I pass with a B at least.

The Last BOB of the school year

Hey everyone else in Pre-Calc Trig. It's the last post of the year! Not saying it was much of a chore to do these but it reminds me that school's almost over. Anyway on Wednesday we took the first part of the test which I was able to finish the next day and still had to take the second part after school. The first went alright and I did not feel like any major errors were made on graphing or no calculator unit circle stuff. However part 2 being only 4 questions long was the most stressful thing I have ever faced in a math class. I have been studying and the questions were a bit confusing and very tricky to get equations out. It was probably a train wreck but nothing extremely bad. These identities are A LOT easier since they are more logical that mathematical. Let's just see how the exam goes.

Hello friends of blogger.com, this is my week reflection, the week went well I finished part one of the test and was not at school Friday so I need to take part 2! I am still kind of confused on graphing tan and cot and seeing how the k values affect those graphs. I am very ill but I will be at school tomorrow hopefully!

Hey gang, it's me again.  Sorry for my lack of "blogging" over the course of this trimester, but you know what they say...sometimes even a wolf has to settle for some berries.  Anyways, on Wednesday this week we took the first part of the test, which seemed to go horrific.  On Thursday, we took the second part of the test, which even though I could tell I was doing better, it was still quite a sticky situation.  I mean literally, my fingers were covered in dried maple syrup from the chocolate chip pancakes I had recently shoved down my hole that morning.  Regardless, normally if I am not doing to well in a class, I can still give myself an "A" for effort, but with this class my effort has been worse than Khloe Kardashian's when trying to put down the cheese puffs.  Dah.

Ahhhh!!!!! This tri has gone by so fast!!! But this has been such a great year... sure it had some downs but overall I'd say this year has been pretty good...

So this new stuff... getting the hang of it,  substitution and algebra. Seeing how all of this connects together is interesting and dare I say mind blowing!!!

term reflection

i didn't do as much as i would have liked to, but i had fun; it's kind of hard not to with Jackson as a teacher. anyway the DEV is coming along well and it seems like the end of another year is upon us again, and so passes another 1% of our lives if we live to 100. i screwed up another term and landed a c if all goes to plan with the exam and DEV. in conclusion, i have to thank you for another class of useful skills, you may never know the impact or extent of your work on those you teach, but your devotion never goes unnoticed. people like you who sacrifice their time and resources to make GOOD education possible generally don't make a lot of money, instead you make something far more valuable. you make a difference. thank you

B.O.B. Week 7

I honestly have no idea what week number it is anymore. Oops. We're just gonna say 7, since I guessed 6 last week. Anyway. Moving on. 

I haven't been at school much. As in I've missed the last three weeks. Which isn't good. At all. I have loads of work to make up, and must do so while learning new material, which is often based on the things I was gone for. Overall, it's not the best situation to be in. I'm completely swamped with work, and am trying to come up with a reasonable plan to get things done. That honestly hasn't been going the greatest. Or at least it has in some areas, and not so much in others. I've been try in to prioritize work so that I can get things done based on what needs to get done quickly- such as my AP exam and my Physics exam. The problem with this is that although I recognize I can't get everything done at once I feel the need to, like I have to get it all done at once so that I can stay caught up and still meet my own expectations for myself. And I need to find a way to fix that. Soon. Hopefully this week will go smoothly and I can get myself caught up as soon as possible.

The most difficult thing for me this week was having to review stuff from the previous units before the test. Most of it was easy to remember, since everything in our graphing unit is adding to the first unit anyway. I had the most trouble writing equations for story problems, but I was able to pick it up pretty quickly.

This week the new unit Is a bit confusing to me right now. Hopefully as we go further in it will  make a bit more sense.

B.O.B. - Reflection of last week

I had a very great day today, with amazing people and sunshine! But so was all last week:) in the beginning of the week I came in every day before and after school freaking out, about not being ready for the test and then there was also the final exam in physics... But after putting all this work in before and after school and writing 3 summaries, it was worth it, not because I think I did good on the test, but because I think I understand a lot of things better now! but thanks Jackson, this would have never worked without you! Now I'm looking forward to get some sleep before memorial day parade and then for another awesome week:) life is just great! so is math class:)

     I don't know how I'm supposed to feel about this week.
     One struggle for me was keeping up with the homework check. It seemed like it took me five-ever to finish everything and I couldn't bring myself to understand two of the problems until the day before the test when I was there after school.
     I also feel conflicted about our test. I felt okay about it, but I get the sense that I didn't focus enough while I took it and I may have messed a lot of it up. With that said, I have strong reservations about having confidence in it. I just can't wait to get it back so maybe I can do test corrections.
     I think I like what we started after day two of the test. I was having trouble focusing on it at first but I liked it by the end. Unfortunately...I missed Friday for the Cedar Point trip (which was SO fun! *shout out to Derek T and Kristen R #workhardplayhard) and I don't know if I'll be able to easily catch up.

Overall, I think I'm just tired. I don't sleep enough and I can't focus in class which makes me only half understand things and fall behind. I think I'll try harder at that this week.

This trimester has been very interesting and challenging in math. I think though that this unit will probably be the hardest for me. Last unit went well and I feel fairly confident about the test. This unit is a little harder to understand for me. But, I'll work hard to keep up with the unit. Right now though I am focusing on my DEV problems. My goal for this weekend is to get at least one problem done. So I am really hoping for a strong finish to this trimester.

The test this past week was difficult for me because we did the converting degrees to radians, and vise versa, problems so long ago that I forgot how to do them. But with A LOT of studying I figured out the shortcuts using pie and dividing it by 180degrees! I think I did pretty good on the tests.

Identities

This week in trig, after the test, we briefly and vaguely talked about Pythagorean identities. From what we've learned so far, learning the identities of at least these three equations will make our lives so much easier when we move on to calculus. What I understand at this point is that all an identity is, is the different form a certain question takes on. For instance we could have 5 "different" equations but they would all be asking and answering the same exact thing. I'm hoping to learn more and better understand all about identities before taking AP calculus next year.

This week we are learning pythagorean identities and it is kind of confusing. There's just so many different ways to write each individual equation and its hard to understand which one to use. Which quadrant the value is in is sort of confusing too, because there's so many things (tan, cos, sec, csc, etc) that you have to look for. Oh well, i'll keep working at it.

Going into the last test we had, I felt a lot more ready than I had. I felt like i actually understood the material and knew more what was going on. I still have a couple questions left on the second part of it though, and I'll have to stay after to finish those.
