B.O.B. Week 1

A fictional character that I would love to meet would be the Malfoy family, specifically Draco Malfoy, from Harry Potter. I have previously done a project where we had to choose a villain and write a story about their storyline from the villain (not the hero)'s point of view. For my project I did Harry Potter, and had been torn between explaining Lord Voldemort's point of view and the Malfoys'. I ultimately wrote about Voldemort, at that point thinking it would be more intriguing to write from the point of view of a character that doesn't get a lot of appearance time in the books. Malfoy, on the other hand, does, as he is one of Harry's classmates. However, I find the backstory and thought process of him and his family incredibly intriguing; just how much of what they did was their choice, and how much was being forced by their fear of Voldemort? How much was Draco influenced by his father's previous choices, leaving Draco with no options other than what he did? And his mother is very interesting as well; what did she sacrifice for the sake of her family? All in all, I find myself to be oddly interested in the choices of the so-called villains of stories, and find those of Harry Potter to be oddly compelling, as J.K. Rowling did such a perfect job of blurring the lines of good and bad, giving these people such enthralling storylines that help to give justification for their actions.

  1. This is really insightful Callie! I have to admit that I usually don't give much thought to the villians, but sometimes I wonder about their view. It would be pretty cool to listen to what they have to say. Maybe I would grow to like them more. :)
